Day of the Song: May 9, 2020

The next Day of the Song (Dag van het Lied) will be held on Saturday May 9, 2020. It will take place in Zeist (near Utrecht), embedded in the International Festival of Song held there (Internationaal Lied Festival Zeist). The theme of this Day of the Song is Beethoven, master and rebel. Much attention will be given to Beethoven during the master class and the lectures as well as during the recitals, but there will be also be space for other composers who have composed songs in an innovative way.

Ticket sales

  • Members of ‘Vrienden van het Lied’ pay only 30 euro’s for a ticket, which gives access to the Day of the Song and the evening recital by Raoul Steffani and Gerald Huber
  • Non-members pay 32 euro’s for a day ticket, which is valid during the daytime only
  • Visitors under 30 years of age pay only 10 euro’s for a day ticket
  • Tickets can be ordered from the site of Internationaal Lied Festival Zeist

Morning Programme Saturday, May 9

10:30 – 11:15 h Grote Zaal
During the walk-in, starting at 10:30, students from the conservatory of Utrecht (Utrechts Conservatorium) will sing various songs.

11:30 – 13:00 h Grote Zaal
Short master class by Henk Neven, singing teacher at Codarts Rotterdam, with students from the conservatory of Utrecht singing duets

14:00 – 14:45 h Liedlab 2.0 Grote Zaal
Students from vocal departments of Dutch conservatories are challenged to present their views on the song recital of the future. A few will be given the opportunity to present their ideas in a short recital on the Day of the Song. Boundaries are there to be explored, and connections with other disciplines are welcomed. Starting point is the theme Beethoven, master and rebel.

Lecture by Dinant Krouwel on the four settings by Beethoven of the well-known poem Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt

Lecture by Leo Samama on the songs of Beethoven in the context of his time and his other works

Meet and greet with performers.
