The Great War
The British call World War I ‘The Great War’, the war of hitherto unprecedented scale and devastation. So the theme of this recital is war in general and World War I in particular.
You will hear songs by Poulenc, Honegger, Tailleferre, Granados, Butterworth and Escher set to poems by Apollinaire, Housman and Owen, among others, all of whom had to do with The Great War in one way or another.
