The Dutch Chopin
Irene Maessen and Maurice Lammerts van Bueren unearth a composer who has received too little attention. Because everybody knows Diepenbrock, but nobody has heard, wrongly, of the (modest) Gerard von Brucken Fock, who, moreover, was a double talent, besides being a composer he was also a painter.
In the programme The Dutch Chopin soprano Irene Maessen and pianist Maurice Lammerts van Bueren will play compositions by Dutch composer Gerard von Brucken Fock. He was born in Zeeland at Slot ter Hooge in 1859. This Romantic wrote mainly piano compositions and songs. Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg appreciatively called him ‘the Dutch Chopin’. The music of von Brucken Fock is very appropriately combined with works by Frédéric Chopin, Edvard Grieg, Robert Schumann and Norwegian Christian Sinding.
