‘Auch kleine Dinge’ must be experienced!

What great soloists and accompanists we have at our association! This was demonstrated once again on Sunday 30 November at our house concert in Teteringen. We welcomed soprano Ellen Valkenburg, baritone Florian Just, and Maurice Lammerts van Bueren at the grand piano.

The programme before the interval was almost entirely devoted to Hugo Wolfs Italienisches Liederbuch, which was sung and played in a beautiful and especially surprising way! I don't want to give away much about it, you have to experience it, but all emotions from love to rage and everything in between were reviewed and performed with verve by all three! After the enthusiastic applause, the appropriate Mozart duet concluded before the break Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen.

After the break, it continued with three delightful duets by Mendelssohn. Then by Franz Schubert from Goethe's Wilhelm Meister Wer sich der Einsamkeit ergibt, movingly beautifully performed by Florian, followed by Ellen with Lied der Mignon ‘Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt’, beautiful and lived-in, and then the duet Mignon und der Harfner.

Followed by two beautiful, lesser-known liederen by Duparc and a piano solo by Maurice: La sérénade interrompue from Préludes by Claude Debussy with a short explanation beforehand. Great! And still the enjoyment was not over! This was followed by duets by Fauré, Berlioz and Saint-Saëns. Again, it was striking how beautifully these two soloists, together with Maurice, sensed each other and, above all, coloured beautifully together!

Finally, a great hit as an encore: Anything you can do, I can do better from the musical Annie Get Your Gun, performed so enthusiastically that every one wanted to swing along!

Thundering applause!
