Golda Schultz and Jonathan Ware at Concertgebouw

A journey through nocturnal thoughts: soprano Golda Schultz and pianist Jonathan Ware's Dark Matters programme features works by Clara Schumann and Florence Price, as well as Richard Strauss's Vier letzte Lieder and Crumb's cycle Apparition. Golda Schultz is a master storyteller, perhaps the night is not so dark when she is speaking.

Golda Schultz & Jonathan Ware
‘A master storyteller’, calls Gramophone the South African soprano Golda Schultz. The magazine also praises her as an enterprising programmer and a brilliant Strauss soprano. Schultz can mainly be found on the opera stage, so her debut in the Small Hall is all the more special. On her first solo album, Jonathan Ware accompanied her, a golden combination. They are both on hand now too, in a programme about the deepest nocturnal thoughts.

Dark Matters
There are thoughts we have only in the dark of night, under the blanket of darkness. This is when we think about the end of our relationships or the end of our lives. How will we face these experiences? Will we be angry, or will we accept everything and step into the unknown? With liederen by Florence Price and Clara Schumann, the Vier letzte Lieder By Richard Strauss and Crumbs cycle Apparition plus accompanying texts by Shakespeare and Walt Whitman, the journey may not be so dark ...
