A musical ode to Vienna

In this extraordinary concert, the intimate sound world of Franz Schubert meets the irresistible charm of Viennese operetta in a single festive programme. A truly special feature is the participation of bass-baritone Robert Holl, a living legend within international lied art and one of the greatest Schubert interpreters of our time. With his profound musical insight and decades of experience with the Viennese repertoire (including as professor of singing at the Vienna Conservatory), he lends this programme a unique artistic authority.

The concert opens with a series of gems from the repertoire that Franz Schubert wrote specially for male quartet – a line-up with a rich, warm and lyrical sound. The voices blend in tender serenades, humorous scenes and poetic evening music. During the famous Serenade Soprano Fenna Ograjensek is sung to by the male quartet, which, alongside Robert Holl, consists of tenors Mark Heines and Mitch Raemaekers and baritone Vincent Kusters. In this first part, they are accompanied by pianist and lied specialist Roger Braun.

Following this first half, conductor and pianist Enrico Delamboye takes his place at the piano and the musicians transport the audience to the bustling world of Viennese operetta. Well-known arias and duets by Johann Strauss, Carl Millöcker and Franz Lehár bring the elegance, humour and zest for life of the Viennese theatres to life. From the moving Vilja-Lied to the irresistible You are my whole heart and the famous duet Lips are silent – music that instantly captures the heart.
