Anne Sofie von Otter & Kristian Bezuidenhout: Schubertiade

Music into the small hours with Franz Schubert behind the keyboard; we would have loved to have been there. Mezzo-soprano Anne-Sofie von Otter and fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout take us back in time, to a true Schubertiade. They interweave songs and solo works for piano by the great Viennese to get into the highest Schubertian moods.

‘Purity of voice and meticulous attention to detail,’ wrote The Observer About one of the greatest singers of her generation: Anne-Sofie von Otter. And that's not all: what also stands out about the Swedish mezzo-soprano is her sincere sound. Happy to share the stage with celebrated South African fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout, he too has a special eye for detail. For their recital in the Small Hall, they put together a veritable Schubertiade.

Schubertiade
Musical evenings in salons and coffee houses in the early nineteenth century, not infrequently featuring Franz Schubert behind the keyboard: the Schubertiades. Musicians, composers and poets came together to pay tribute to the fine arts. Anne-Sofie von Otter and Kristian Bezuidenhout also chose a Schubertiade, with only music by the namesake of these gatherings. They interwove songs and solo works for piano to get into the highest Schubert moods.
