Norwegian Bettina Smith obtained her singing diplomas with distinction in Bergen and at the Royal Conservatoire, where she took lessons with Wout Oosterkamp and Elly Ameling. The mezzo-soprano spent two years at the Zurich Opera and also sang at other major opera houses such as the Staatsoper Berlin.
The mezzo-soprano has soloed in many European concert halls under the baton of renowned conductors. She has been a guest at various festivals in Europe. Bettina Smith has a wide repertoire: from medieval to contemporary, which she performs as a soloist, as an oratorio singer and in chamber music.
With the pianist Jan Willem Nelleke they form a permanent duo. They performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Reykjavik and Baden bei Wien, among others. The singer also makes music with pianist Einar Røttingen.
Bettina Smith recorded several CDs and won several awards. The singer is now a lecturer at the University of Stavanger in Norway.
