Elenora Hu

Elenora Hu is an alumna of De Nationale Opera Studio in Amsterdam and has won an impressive string of awards. She has since performed a wide variety of roles and has a great love of song.

biography

Some of the awards she has won include those of the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours (2019), the Royal Virginia Zeani Competition (2019), OmroepMAX's ARIA television competition (2021) and the International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch (2023).

Her stage debut with the Dutch National Opera and Ballet took place in 2021 in composer Neo Muyanga's new production Anansi. In 2022, Elenora performed several roles with the Dutch National Opera, including 2nd Woman and 1st Witch in Dido and Aeneas(Purcell) and Princess Galathea in the highly acclaimed production Operettaland. She also made her debut in the main hall of the Royal Concertgebouw at the Saturday Matinee as Catarina in L'Amico Fritz (Mascagni). In the field of oratorio, she sang soprano solos in works such as Ein Deutsches Requiem (Brahms), the St John Passion and the St Matthew Passion (J.S. Bach). In spring 2023, Elenora jumped in for the role of Grieving Woman in the new production Ändere die Weltat the Opera Forward Festival. In June 2023, she made her role debut as 2nd Nymph in Rusalka (Dvorak) conducted by Joana Mallwitz, while simultaneously playing the roles of Queen Nitocris in Belshazzar and Dalinda in Ariodante (Handel) performed in the new production Kings and Queens, a collaboration between The National Opera Studio and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra directed by Christof Loy.

Besides her passion for opera, Elenora also has a great love for the art of song. She has performed in well-known venues such as TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and the small hall of the Royal Concertgebouw. In 2021, she recorded together with soprano Roberta Alexander and pianist Gilbert den Broeder American Songs Remembered on for the radio programme NTR: Opera Live by Hein van Eekert (NPO4), a collection of songs and arias by American composers rarely heard in the Netherlands. In 2023, together with pianist Amy Chang a prize as a duo at the International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

In 2023, soprano Elenora Hu and pianist Amy Chang won the Friends of Song engagement prize at the International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Following that performance, they put together a programme of works by Chausson, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Poulenc and Dutch composer Frans Wiemans, among others.
