He has been selected as a Britten Pears Young Artist for 2025–2026, which took him to Aldeburgh for coaching with Roderick Williams and Malcolm Martineau. Alongside mezzo-soprano Jasperina Verheij, he also forms a successful liedduo that has won prizes at the International Student Liedduo Competition and the Gelre Chamber Music Competition, amongst others. They have also attended numerous masterclasses with Joseph Middleton, Elly Ameling, Christianne Stotijn, Malcolm Martineau and Hans Eijsackers, among others.
Willem studied classical piano at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Ellen Corver and Slava Poprugin. In addition, he attended masterclasses with Severin von Eckardstein, Alexander Melnikov and Alexei Lubimov, among others.
Alongside the modern piano, he also plays historical instruments, in which he was coached by Petra Somlai and Bart van Oort. On the fortepiano, he recently performed Fanny Mendelssohn's piano trio at the opening of a concert by the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century.
