Jou-an Chen, a Taiwanese pianist, initially studied solo piano (Diplôme Supérieur d'Enseignement) at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with professors Nelson Delle-Vigne Fabbri and Erik Berchot. She then obtained her master's degree in Liedgestaltung at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Professor Ulrich Eisenlohr.
During her studies, she was supported by a scholarship from Kawai Keyboard and the Pacing Art Culture Education Foundation. She was a member of the International Certificate for Piano Artists and since 2024 she has been performing with Maria Portela Larisch For Friends of Song.
To share her love for music, she performed concerts around the world, including in Taiwan, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Russia, Lithuania, Spain and Switzerland.
In 2021, she released an album with viola professor Yi-wen Chao. In 2023, she won first prize in the Interner Liedduo-Wettbewerb of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and reached the finals of the Hidalgo competition in Munich with soprano Maria Portela Larisch. That same year, she was selected by LiedBasel.
In 2024 she was part of the Leeds Lieder Young Artists, and in 2025 she was selected for Carnegie Hall's SongStudio.
