biography

Bas Verheijden earned his master's degree with Jan Wijn in Amsterdam with distinction. He was the only Dutchman ever to be accepted at the renowned Accademia Pianistica in Imola (Italy). He won various prizes (including the Vriendenkrans van het Concertgebouw with Niek van Oosterum as a duo on two pianos) and the AVRO made a documentary of his master class week with Maria João Pires (2001). In 2000, after a recital in the Concertgebouw's Jonge Nederlanders series, he made his name for good by performing Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto with the NSO conducted by Roland Kieft for 13 consecutive days.

Bass also has a great affinity for chamber music. He has performed with Alexander Pavlovsky (primarius of the Jerusalem Quartet), the Parkanyi Quartet and cellist Daniel Müller-Schott. His double CD with violinist Liza Ferschtman received a 10 in Luister magazine (2004). He is a member of the Atlantic Trio, which, apart from well-known repertoire for piano trio, also likes to focus on forgotten masterpieces and special collaborative projects. These included an acclaimed CD release with trios by Chausson and Chaminade, and collaborations with baritone Maarten Koningsberger recorded works by Charles and Adolphe Beckand (2015) and by Beethoven, Ravel, Brahms and Butterworth (CD Old Songs Re-Sung 2017).

Since then, Bas has also formed a song duo for the VvhL with Maarten Koningsberger, and from 2019 additionally with baritone Hans Pieter Herman.
