biography

As a four-year-old, Charlie Bo Meijering sat drawing at home in the living room, under his father's composition table. Freshly written compositions sounded incessantly from loudspeakers. The room was filled with art books belonging to Charlie Bo's painting mother. There he browsed daily and drew inspiration from them for his own drawing work. The seeds had been sown for an indomitable musical and visual passion. The piano already present in the house proved to be the instrument of choice to re-enact the music.

Charlie Bo has since given piano recitals with animations and homemade projections at the Concertgebouw, Tivoli Vredenburg and Oosterpoort.

Besides his love for the piano, Charlie has immersed himself in the carillon. As a pianist, he specialises in song accompaniment. Together with baritone Vincent Kusters he forms a permanent duo. They have won several prizes, including the Friends of the IVC Prize (2019), the Robert Schumann-Wettbewerb (2021), the Johann-Max-Böttcher-Preis (2021), the Young Artists Platform of the International Lied Festival Zeist (2021) and the prize for the best Schubert Lieder interpretation (2022). They have performed at the International Lied Festival Zeist, Oxford Lieder, on Radio 4 and at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.

Charlie Bo is permanent pianist at De Nationale Opera, works as correpetitor at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and can regularly be seen on AVROTROS' Maestro.

As an illustrator and draftsman, Charlie Bo has produced work for the magazines Junto and Quarterly. He made the projections for the concerts Music, Imagination and the Brain at the Concertgebouw and The Beat of the Image at Bethany Monastery.
