Lies Braakman

Lies Braakman studied at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Besides her performances as a soloist and with chamber music ensembles, she plays frequently with vocalists.

Lies Braakman studied piano at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen in with Paul Komen and Nata Tsvereli. She completed her master's studies with Paul Roberts at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in 2015.

For this, she received grants from the VSB Fund and Prince Bernhard Culture Fund, as well as a contribution from the Guildhall School Trust. After her return to the Netherlands, Lies was allowed to play a beautiful 1914 Bechstein grand piano on loan from the National Music Fund. Lies Braakman took master classes with Rian de Waal, specifically also for chamber music, as well as with Alisdair Tate, Matthew Jones, Vebjørn Anvik, and Daniël Wayenberg. Besides performing as a soloist and with various chamber music ensembles, she plays frequently with vocalists.

Since 2013, Lies Braakman has collaborated with soprano Claire Read and they are now also coached as a duo. They have already performed several times as a song duo and reached the final of the 2015 International Student Song Duo Competition in Enschede. In the process, they became the winners of the Friends of Song Prize. After a successful audition in 2016, the duo was admitted to the soloist list.
