Irene Hoogveld

Soprano Irene Hoogveld obtained her bachelor and master degrees cum laude and won several awards. She has performed several opera roles. Driven by a passion for modern, Dutch music, Irene sang a large number of premieres for various Dutch composers.

biography

Soprano Irene Hoogveld graduated cum laude in 2019 from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London as Guildhall Artist Master in Performance, with mezzo-soprano Sarah Pring. She obtained her Bachelor, Cum laude in 2017 from ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten with soprano Claudia Patacca.

In 2022, Irene sang Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana (Mascagni); a reprise of the same 2021 production with Opera op ’t Hogeland, and with De Kleine Opera. In addition to Santuzza, Irene sang the Foreign Princess in Rusalka (Dvořák) with Opera Compact in 2021. In 2020, she collaborated on the world premiere of Ritratto (Jeths) with De Nationale Opera. In addition, in 2021 Irene created her opera initiative EER(S)T DE DAME: a series of Dutch-language monodramas. In 2019, Irene sang in Cunning Little Vixen - Janáček: Jay with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. In 2018, she sang in Thijl (van Gilse) Gilline/Lady of Dudzeelewith the Utrechtsch Studenten Concert conducted by Bas Pollard.

Driven by a passion for modern, Dutch music, Irene sang a large number of premieres for various Dutch composers. She sang works by Tera de Marez Oyens (The Narrow Path), Bernard van Beurden (Via Dolorosa) and Joep Franssens (Bridge of Dawn pt. 2) with, among others, Het Orkest van het Oosten live on Radio 4. She also sang new music by Graham Ross and Sam Gooderham at Wigmore Hall, and a Russian song programme at Barbican Hall, London (UK). In November 2022, Irene and pianist Maxime Snaterse joined the Friends of Song as soloists after a successful audition.

Irene was a Friends Prize winner at the International Vocal Competition Den Bosch 2022, a finalist in the Susan Longfield Prize and Hurn Court Opera Prize in 2019, and she won the Audience Award in the Chartered Surveyor Prize in 2018. Irene has been supported by the VandenEnde Foundation, VSB Fund, Prince Bernhard Culture Fund, Fundatie van Renswoude, ArtPitch038 and Fonds Podiumkunsten.

Sometimes there is barely time to place all the notes, at other times time seems to stand still. Even if you look beyond just the music, you discover that consternation and serenity alternate.
