Jan-Paul Grijpink

Jan-Paul Grijpink studied at the conservatories of Utrecht and Amsterdam where he specialised in song accompaniment and opera. He took master classes with Rudolf Jansen, Roger Vignoles, Helmut Deutsch and Boris Berman. Immediately after his studies, he worked at the then Opera Studio Nederland and the Nederlandse Reisopera.

Jan-Paul forms a permanent duo with baritone Florian Just. Together they won several prizes including the prize for best interpretation of the Schubert song, at the ‘Schubert und die Musik der Moderne’ competition in Graz. For the Etcetera label, they recorded the CDs Monologue and Éternelle Dualite on. These received rave reviews from both the national and international press, including a 10 in the magazine Listen. In spring 2020, together with countertenor Maarten Engeltjes, he toured the Netherlands with Schubert's Winterreise.

With soprano Selma Harkink he has also formed a duo for a long time. Together, they gave numerous concerts throughout the Netherlands. He also performed with Thomas Oliemans, Karin Strobos, Henk Neven, Tania Kross and many others.

Jan-Paul is currently part of the musical staff of De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam. There, he worked in numerous productions with conductors such as Marc Albrecht, Joana Mallwitz, Carlo Rizzi, Maurizio Benini, Daniele Gatti, Sir Mark Elder, Antonello Manacorda, Reinbert de Leeuw and many others.
