Jan Willem Nelleke received his training at the conservatories of The Hague and Utrecht with Else Krijgsman and Thom Bollen, respectively. He also took lessons with Jörg Demus, Helmut Deutsch, Naum Grubert and others. Rudolf Jansen.

Jan Willem Nelleke is a sought-after accompanist - especially song accompanist - and has worked with singers such as Wout Oosterkamp, Bettina Smith and Frans Huijts and various soloists such as violinist Janine Jansen and horn player Jacob Slagter. With them, he has given concerts throughout almost all of Europe and beyond. He is a regular guest at international festivals such as the Delft Chamber Music Festival.

Jan Willem Nelleke composed a large amount of songs and chamber music and his arrangements are regularly played.

As a teacher, Jan Willem Nelleke works at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He is also a piano teacher on the song interpretation courses of the Austrian Franz Schubert Institut, alongside teachers Elly Ameling, Robert Holl and Robert Tear, among others.
