Maarten Hillenius studied at the Amsterdam conservatory and for UM at the Utrecht conservatory. From the very beginning, he specialised in accompanying singers. For this, he took courses with Noel Lee, Irwin Gage and Rudolf Jansen, among others.
He gave concerts in many countries and accompanied song courses in Spain, France, Portugal and the Netherlands with, among others, Max van Egmond, Charlotte Margiono, Helmut Lips, Loraine Nubar, Udo Reinemann, Robert Lloyd, Gerda Hartman, Maarten Koningsberger and Teresa Berganza.
He also accompanies regularly with the International Opera Centre Amsterdam and De Nederlandse Opera, made several CDs and performed in with Toneelgroep Amsterdam and Onafhankelijk Toneel Rotterdam. He is a pianist at the vocal department of Rotterdam Conservatoire.
