Martijn Sanders

Martijn Sanders has sung several opera roles at international festivals. He has also gained a great reputation as a song singer and concert soloist and can be heard on the important stages at home and abroad.

biography

After winning first prize at the Nico Dostal Competition( St Pölten), Martijn Sanders made his debut as Papageno on the occasion of the Wiener Mozartwoche. He subsequently sang roles with the Wiener Kammeroper, Theater Aachen, Opera Trionfo, Stadtheater Baden, the Nederlandse Reisopera, Opera zuid, De Nationale Opera, and at various international festivals.

His repertoire includes such roles as Don Giovanni, Figaro, Dandini, Escamillo, Ferrando (Il Trovatore) , Junius (The rape of Lucretia), Patrocles (King Priam), Bretigny (Manon), Zio Bonzo (Madama Butterfly) Sagrestano(Tosca), Tonio (I Pagliacci), Alfio (Cavalleria Rusticana), Falke (Die Fledermaus),Fra Melitone (La forza del destino), Nabucco, Claudius (Hamlet), Sacha (Moskva chereomushki)and Colline (La Boheme). At the Munich Philharmonie, he sang Vitellius (Herodiade- Massenet) alongside Agnes Baltsa and Johann ( Werther), among others. He recently made his debut at the Bottroper Stadtfest as Der Hollӓnder in Wagner's Der Fliegenden Hollӓnder olv Valteri Rauhalammi.

Martijn sanders is also active as a concert singer and can frequently be heard in the passions of J.S.Bach, the well-known oratorios of Hӓndel, Haydn and Mendelssohn but also in the requiems of Verdi, Brahms and Mozart. At the NTR Saturday matinee, he could be heard in Protesilaos and Laodamia (Escher), A Village Romeo and Juliet (Delius), Die Gezeichneten (Schreker) and Fedora (Giordano).

Songs my (great)grandparents taught me

In this programme, Martijn Sanders, together with pianist Femke de Graaf, pays homage to composers and singers from the childhood of Martijn's (great) grandparents. The recital opens with songs by Brahms and Strauss, followed by four examples of Dutch song art. After the interval, songs by Dvořák, Hahn and Chaminade, operatic melodies by Gastaldon and Tosti, a schlager by Richard Tauber and a bouncer by Gershwin will be heard.

From romance to art nouveau

Together with pianist Ernst Munneke, Martijn Sanders will perform a programme of songs by Carl Loewe, Richard Strauss, Franz Schreker, Anna Cramer and others.

Romantic solo songs and duets

Soprano Francis van Broekhuizen and Martijn Sanders perform a programme of romantic solo songs and duets. It will feature composers such as Mendelssohn, Chausson, Franck and Hildach and the Dutch composers Leon C. Bouman, Catharina van Rennes and Richard Hol. They will be accompanied by pianist Femke de Graaf.
