Martijn van Sas

Martijn van Sas felt strongly attracted to the piano from the age of ten and developed into a gifted classical pianist and passionate musician. He is a teacher and accompanist at the Kunsthumaniora Brussel and the academy of Zottegem.

biography

He studied at the music academy of Haaltert and later at the Kunsthumaniora van Brussel. In 2018, he obtained his Master's degree magna cum laude at the Conservatory of Ghent, always under the passionate guidance of teacher Vitaly Samoshko (1999 Queen Elisabeth Competition winner). He complemented this Master with a course in song accompaniment at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof Charles Spencer.

Martijn has made a regular appearance at concerts including Living Piano (MIAT), Arte Amanti (chamber music festival), the Gentsche Festspiele (Ghent Festival), the Miry Klavierreeks in Ghent and at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna. He followed master classes with Markus Hadulla, Polina Leschenko, Martin Hughes, Jan Michiels, Daniel Blumenthal, Hans Ryckelynck, among others. In 2019-2020, he and soprano Franches Dhont participated in the Udo Reinemann International Masterclasses at De Munt, where they were taught by several internationally recognised artists. In July 2019, Martijn won the Theodor-Storm- Preis, the prize for the best pianist, in the Concours voor de Liedkunst in Husum in northern Germany. Two years after winning his first prize there, the Aalstrian pianist returned from the ‘Meisterkurs für Liedgestaltung’ with two awards.

For the Friends of the Song, he has formed a duo with Artur Rożek.
