biography

The mezzo-soprano Olivia Vermeulen studied singing in Berlin with Julie Kaufmann and Wolfram Rieger (Liedklas). She took master classes with Thomas Quasthoff, Andreas Scholl, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, René Jacobs and Irwin Gage, among others.

During her studies, Olivia Vermeulen already participated in several operas, and from 2008 to 2010 she was a member of the opera studio of the Komische Oper in Berlin, where she sang roles such as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Zerlina in Don Giovanni of Mozart. In 2012, she had her successful debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, with the Radio Chamber Philharmonic conducted by Michael Schoenwandt. This was immediately followed by her debut with the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam, in L'amour des trois oranges By Prokofiev.

Olivia Vermeulen is a much sought-after soloist on the major international concert stages, and has worked with well-known conductors such as Frans Brüggen, Philippe Herreweghe, Masaaki Suzuki, Iván Fischer, Helmuth Rilling, Andrea Marcon, Vladimir Jurowski, and Alessandro de Marchi. She has collaborated on several radio and CD recordings, including a solo CD of arias from the Italian Baroque for the Sony/BMG label.

Outside her work as a concert and opera singer, Olivia has a great passion for song. For instance, she was winner of the international song competition La Voce in Bayreuth in 2008, and regularly gives song recitals, together with her regular duo partner Liana Vlad.
