biography

Ursula Dütschler studied at the Bern Conservatory, the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at Cornell University and won first prizes at major competitions such as the International Harpsichord Competition in Paris and the Erwin Bodky Competition in Boston.

She developed a versatile concert practice on both instruments and can be heard on various international stages and festivals, as a soloist, in various chamber music ensembles and duo formations with musical partners such as Raymond Honing, traverso, Eric Hoeprich, clarinet and the vocalists Francine van der Heijden, Irene Maessen and Wendy Roobol.

Her extensive discography at Claves includes recordings of solo works by Bach, Balbastre, Byrd and Scarlatti as well as Beethoven, in addition to numerous chamber music performances. Dütschler also participated in the pioneering 1994 recording of the complete Beethoven piano sonatas on authentic instruments with Malcolm Bilson and six of his former students. Her CD with Raymond Honing, appearing with arrangements of Beethoven for the 8-valve flute and fortepiano, was reviewed by Listenreviewed with a 9. Meanwhile, her latest CD featuring Dussek's sonatines is out from Brilliant Classics.

For her interpretation of J.S. Bach's toccatas, Geoffrey Crankshaw of the British magazine wrote Musical Opinion enthused: ‘Dütschler's performance of the toccatas at the Wigmore Hall was simply a revelation (...) she is an exceptional musician who masters excellent technique, putting herself entirely at the service of the music.’
