There is no such thing as a single Briton

During the anniversary day on 18 October, you will not only listen to professional musicians, but also to advanced amateur musicians who support lied. For soprano Marijke Groenendaal and pianist Jacob Engel, there is not just one Britten. His works are a universe where they love to be: ‘As if you are meeting an old friend.’

Are we on the right track?

During the anniversary day on 18 October, you will not only listen to professional musicians, but also to advanced amateur musicians who support lied. For tenor Ed Rosbergen and pianist Corien Benschop, performing Britten's lied is like being in conversation with him. If they could ask him anything about their performance, it would be: ‘Are we on the right track with our interpretation?’

New edition of ‘In het voorprogramma van …’

This year, Vrienden van het Lied is organising the ‘Supporting act for ...’ project once again. For the past two years, the Rotterdam branch was the organiser, but this time The Hague has the honour of welcoming participants and tutors for the masterclass and concert.

Let me introduce myself: Jasperina Verheij and Willem van den Dool

In January, mezzo-soprano Jasperina Verheij and pianist Willem van den Dool were one of three lied duos accepted after the audition. ‘At Vrienden van het Lied we can gain experience, and in this way we can increasingly find our own artistic voice.’

A mermaid in Middelburg

Sunday 2nd August: once again a sweltering day. The kind of day when you crave water. And that is what we got - symbolically - in the atmospheric SmithArt gallery in Middelburg, with the recital The Mystery of the Sea by mezzo-soprano Eline Welle and pianist Charlie Bo Meijering. A wonderful fin de siècle programme that was as refreshing as a lovely downpour and as stimulating to the senses as a dive into cool waves.

Even a piano can sing

During the anniversary celebrations on 18 October, pianist Bas Verheijden will take to the stage without a singer for a lied recital. Strange? Not if you know that transcribing has now become one of his specialities.

Britten Open Podium fully booked!

During the anniversary celebration on 18 October, you will enjoy wonderful recitals by renowned musicians, and there is also plenty of scope for amateur musicians. Interest in the Britten Open Stage has proved to be high: the Open Stage is now fully booked.

Britten Open Stage at 65th anniversary

Many amateur singers enjoy collaborating with an instrumentalist lied to perform at a members-for-members concert, during workshops, or on other stages. These duos are warmly welcomed at the Open Stage during the anniversary celebration on Sunday 18 October in Utrecht.

Three new programmes

Over recent months, 3 special programmes have been added to our offering by three new duos that we would like to bring to your attention.

Contacts wanted

Without contacts, no house concerts. It's as simple as that. Do you love the lied and want others to enjoy this intimate art form? And do you live in the region: Friesland, Leiden or Limburg? Become a contact at Vrienden van het Lied, because together we will put the lied on the map!
