Between France and Greece
Jared Michaud, baritone
Christina Koti, piano
At the beginning of the twentieth century, France and Greece entered into a fascinating artistic dialogue. While French composers such as Lili Boulanger, Reynaldo Hahn, Henri Duparc, and Maurice Ravel were inspired by Greek mythology, poetry, and folk traditions, generations of Greek composers traveled to Paris to study with, among others, Ravel and Olivier Messiaen. There they absorbed new musical languages while simultaneously shaping their own musical identity. Through the poetry of Jean Moréas and Paul Éluard, the folk traditions of Greece, and the modern voices of composers such as Emilios Riadis, Mikis Theodorakis, Yannis Constantinides, and Manos Hadjidakis, Jared Michaud and Christina Koti explore the rich exchange between two musical cultures.

The mystery of the sea
Eline Welle, mezzo-soprano
Charlie Bo Meijering, piano
A magnificent fin-de-siècle program in which we watch French and English composers as they gaze across the cliffs, sail away, say goodbye, sit on deck and muse, reflect, fantasize about even more distant destinations, experience a nightmare, return home and then hear the vast sea once again calling out… Just like the Symbolists, we today look at the inner world of man, at feelings, desires, dreams, and the mystery. A special feature of this program is the sunken cathedral, a traditional Breton myth in which the cathedral of the city of Ys rises from the sea on clear, calm afternoons.
