Audition 2026: impressive stories and performances

When you take a seat and someone raises a lied by Schubert, you know you are among friends. So it went at the audition day in Zwolle, which turned into a wonderful Vrienden van het Lied gathering. The jury faced the difficult task of making a selection, but after careful consideration, three duos were admitted to the list of musicians.

Golda Schultz and Jonathan Ware at Concertgebouw

A journey through nocturnal thoughts: soprano Golda Schultz and pianist Jonathan Ware's Dark Matters programme features works by Clara Schumann and Florence Price, as well as Richard Strauss's Vier letzte Lieder and Crumb's cycle Apparition. Golda Schultz is a master storyteller, perhaps the night is not so dark when she is speaking.

Lilian Farahani & Friends at Concertgebouw

‘Sometimes the reason for a concert programme is very simple: love of music,’ soprano Lilian Farahani tells us. Brahms, Barbara, Piazzolla and Bernstein: it's just a selection, the surprises are many. During her debut in the vocal series, Farahani brings her favourite music together with her favourite musicians.

Ien Bouwmans and Mieke van Huijgevoort have taken the initiative to start providing concerts together for the Den Bosch region. Ien will offer her house in Rosmalen and grand piano (Sauter) for Vrienden van het Lied concerts; Mieke will be contact person for Vrienden van het Lied members and other interested parties in Brabant.

‘Auch kleine Dinge’ must be experienced!

What great soloists and accompanists we have at our association! This was demonstrated once again on Sunday 30 November at our house concert in Teteringen. We welcomed soprano Ellen Valkenburg, baritone Florian Just, and Maurice Lammerts van Bueren at the grand piano.

A concert with obstacles

By Sunday 11 January, the Netherlands had been flat for a week due to snow, ice and cold. Would the musicians manage to reach Zutphen on time by train from Germany?

Heartwarming members-for-members Christmas concert Rotterdam

Half the Netherlands sang at the members-for-members Christmas concert in Rotterdam on 14 December: from Utrecht and Woerden to Veldhoven, from Dordrecht and Den Bosch to Delft, singers and pianists came to Salon 1919.

Allan Clayton & Paul Lewis in Concertgebouw

Few works of art have depicted the torn essence of existence as shockingly as Schubert's ‘Winterreise’. Two connoisseurs and compatriots are on tonight: tenor Allan Clayton and pianist Paul Lewis. A captivating experience is guaranteed.

Jury audition 2026: Maarten Hillenius

Saturday 24 January is the day. ArtEZ Conservatorium Zwolle will then host our annual audition. As every year, the jury consists of musicians who have earned their spurs on the song art stage. We put some questions to them. This time the reaction of pianist Maarten Hillenius: ‘Songs enrich you by touching the most beautiful lyrics and notes and different emotions. You don't have to throw a chair through a café window for that.’

A Sunday afternoon of sung connection

There are those afternoons when everything seems to fall together: the right place, the right people and, above all, the right tone. Such an afternoon was the Members-for-Members concert of the Twente branch of Vrienden van het Lied, held on Sunday 16 November 2025.

Feelings of all times

An intimate house concert with a delightful programme about love: that is what the Friends experienced in Amsterdam. Tenor Jan-Willem Schaafsma and pianist Phyllis Ferwerda convinced and let listeners experience that the romantic song is still relevant, because feelings are of all times.
